Fact
● Did something happen?
My childhood.
● Is there a problem/issue?
I believe that there is an equity problem in classrooms around personality. It seems that the way students are expected to learn, is more comfortable for extroverts than introverts.
● What changed to create the problem/issue?
There has been a shift in classroom settings that stresses the importance of collaboration. Physically this looks like classrooms sitting in tables or circles rather than rows. This collaboration “craze” can be looked at in a positive and negative light. While teamwork can be helpful when synthesizing ideas, individual thinking is can be equally important when problem solving. Recently, the extreme emphasis on collaboration has overpowered individual thinking.

Policy
● Whom might this issue affect (stakeholders)?
This affects pretty much everyone. Introverted people, or inward thinkers, are directly inhibited. If people are all trained to become “extroverted” they are not able to reach their potential. By streamlining and forcing one learning style on everyone, diversity in thought processes is lost. Therefore, everyone misses out on new ideas.
● What happens if we don't do anything?
Not acting on this issue could be dangerous. We face a world with numerous issues such as, the environment, war, political turmoil, hatred, and racism. The only way for us to confront some of these daunting problems is to put our best ideas forward. If the way some people think is inhibited, than we are missing out on not only potential solutions but on more ideas that could bring us closer to solutions.

Once people are aware and agree then things can begin to change. Next, people must take action to change the norm that has been created. Teachers will have to adapt their classrooms. Students and parents will have to advocate for themselves. And curriculum bus be made more inclusive.
